ONE DAY AT BALASINOR
(City located in Mahisagar District of Gujarat, India)
Our long awaited trip to Balasinor finally became reality. We have been trying to take our kids there since long, but some or the other work came and we missed going there. But now on 26th Jan 2022 we finally visited Balasinor. About the relation between Balasinor and Dinosaurs – Balasinor is the place where in around 1983 Researchers came across many species of Dinosaurs which existed 65 million years ago.
They found one very strong species of the Dinosaurs with heavily body and crested horn called Rajasaurus Narmandensis, King of Narmada. (the first half of the name comes from Raja or King due to the crested horn and the second half of the name originates due to its geographical location which was near the river Narmada). This creature belonged to the carnivore family of Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Travelling
We started our journey by our car at 11:45 AM from dahod and reached Balasinor around 2 PM ... The road to Balasinor are good and one can smoothly reach there. While driving we thought we got bit late as we’ll reach there late, as Museum and Park gets closed at 5PM. We thought we’ll be short of time in visiting everything… Timings – Dinosaur Park in Balasinor is divided into 2 – One is Balasinor Museum and second is Dinosaur Fossil park. It opens at 10 AM and closes at 5 PM
Our Experience
When we reached there we saw big statues of Dinosaurs outside the Park and the Museum. We first went to Museum and entry fees were – Foreigners 300/- Adults 50/- and kids 20/- We entered there with lot pf positive energy. Different sections were there describing how Dinosaurs evolved and excavated. Beautiful replicas of dinosaurs, 3D show, display of fossils found etc…. It very interesting to know or I can say to get a bit idea of what happened before 65millions years ago.
The kids had fun there and enjoyed seeing different species of Dinosaurs. They dint even want to come outside the museum… Then we saw Souvenir shop, but it was closed. When we enquired we came to know that it gets open only on weekends.
Then we moved towards canteen to have some snacks, but it was little bit disappointing as only 2-3 options of food were there… Cat and dogs were roaming around here and there. Washroom there are in ok conditions. Neither too hygienic nor too tacky.
Fossil Park - Once completed our photoshoot with the kids, we moved for Fossil Park by around 3:15PM to 3:30 PM. That means 1 to 1:50 hour is enough for visiting museum. We could not find any guide in the fossil park so we ourselves looked around here and there and tried looking things in park. We saw different cages, bones remains, fossils and it was quiet interesting to see such things.. After taking some rest in the garden there and while we were coming out from the park we met with the watchmen to know more about that place and guides availability… Watchmen himself was actually one of the guides there he said…He seemed a man of knowledge and had even taken part in early findings and research teams exploring the remains here. He briefed us about the place and the thousands of eggs remain in the park but you need to go deep inside the park.. He also mentioned Ms. Aliya - Princess of Balasinor and is one of the guides. He gave his Visiting card, details of which is mentioned below and might be helpful to you all.
He also pointed us towards fossil egg remains which were just half km away the main gate. Very interesting. Then we left from there around 4:45PM. We enjoyed a lot and will definitely visit Balasinor Dinosaur Park and museum once kids are grown. Name: Dinosaur Fossil Park City: Raiyoli village of Balasinor, Gujrat Distance: About 100 kms from Vadodara, 90 kms from Ahmedabad. Road condition is very good all along.
our Advice for your trip
Approximate time required during visit: 4-5 hours Things to carry: Cap, water, camera, some snacks and if interested food (as canteen food isn’t very good) Other recommendations: Prefer to go on weekend as availability of guide will be easy. Guide charges range from 500 for a group to 500 per person. Nearby Places worth visiting: 1. Galteshwar Mahadev mandir 2. Tuwa-Timba (hot water springs), 3. Dakorji, 4. Ambaji Temple.
