🌄 Early Life and Royal Loyalty
Durgadas Rathore was born in 1638 into the Rathore Rajput clan of Marwar (present-day Rajasthan). His upbringing was rooted in honor, bravery, and devotion to duty — the very spirit of the Rajputana code.
When the ruler of Marwar, Raja Jaswant Singh, died in 1678 under suspicious circumstances during a campaign in Afghanistan, the Mughals saw an opportunity. Emperor Aurangzeb refused to recognize Jaswant Singh’s posthumous son, Ajit Singh, as the rightful heir. The Mughal emperor attempted to annex Marwar.
But Durgadas stood like a wall between tyranny and tradition.

One of the most daring and defining moments of Durgadas’s life was the rescue of infant Ajit Singh from the Mughal court in Delhi. With Aurangzeb plotting to kill the child and erase the Rathore lineage, Durgadas, with a handful of loyal men, staged a heroic escape, evading capture and setting off a 25-year-long resistance.
This single act turned him from a loyal noble into a revolutionary leader.
